There are four separate classes provided in a four-year rotation. This is an 8-hour annual recertification class to keep EMT Miners’ skills current. An annual 8 hour refresher course maintains certification. Participants receive certification through the West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training. This course mirrors the EMR course with a special emphasis on the care of the injured in mining incidents. Participants must apply to WVOEMS for recertification and submit information in their National Registry accounts according to the current policies of WVOEMS. This is a program taught in 3 4-hour modules designed to recertify WV EMRs. Recertification is required by National Registry every two years. To receive certification by WVOEMS as a First Responder participants must successfully complete practical skills evaluations, and pass the computer-based National Registry cognitive (knowledge) test. The course is 72 hours of classroom and practical training in all aspects of initial response to a medical emergency.

This course emphasizes the skills needed to provide basic emergency care during the first phases of an emergency. This is a program taught in 6 4-hour modules designed to recertify WV EMTs.

The EMT candidate must successfully complete the program, complete required clinical time, complete the practical skills testing, and obtain a passing score on the computer-based National Registry exam. This class meets the National Standards Curriculum. This 155 hour minimum program is the basic level of EMT care by the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services. For more information contact your local Public Service Training Coordinator. All training must be requested in writing using the Training Request Form. Training is available at the request of a department chief or training officer and will be granted based on location, need, and proximity to current classes. Public Service Training offers a wide variety of Emergency Medical Service Training for initial certification, recertification, continuing education, and specialized training.
